Studies show probiotics essential to brain health

Probiotics are known for their abilities to heal your digestive woes and promote a healthy gastrointestinal system. But did you know that new research shows that can impact whole body healthy? In fact, some studies are indicating that probiotics may be a big player in brain function and health as well.

There is mounting evidence that the good gut bacteria may actually help prevent the onset of degenerative diseases like dementia.

Neurologist Dr. David Perlmutter and author of “Brain Maker: The Power of Gut Microbes to Heal and Protect Your Brain — for Life,” told NewsMax Health, “What we understand about virtually every neurodegenerative condition is that the cardinal mechanism is inflammation, and what goes on in the gut regulates the level of inflammation, from the top of your head to the bottom of your toes.”

Dr. Perlmutter explains that probiotics are powerful anti-inflammatory agents and that by reducing that inflammation – we also reduce our susceptibility to diseases, especially degenerative diseases. He also suggests eating a fermented food at least once, if not twice, a day to keep your good gut bacteria in tiptop shape.
