Drinking tea may be like the fountain of youth

Tea is known for its antioxidant powers, as well as being delicious and soothing. But did you know it had other health benefits too? There are several varieties of tea that researchers are finding to be beneficial in other ways, such as green tea, white tea and oolong. The polyphenols and phytochemicals in these types of teas have been shown to help fight against and even prevent infections.

Science also suggests that drinking tea can boost your metabolism and aid weight loss efforts. The catechins found in green tea, particularly, have shown great stimulating effects on metabolism. Studies also suggest that people who drink green tea may have higher bone mineral density, and be less likely to develop osteoporosis. The polyphenols in green tea may also help protect against the development of cognitive decline as people age, and prevent diseases like Alzheimer’s.

The polyphenols in black tea have been found to help lower the acidity in your saliva, and help to protect teeth against enamel erosion and periodontal disease.

What’s really amazing is that all of these types of teas are derived from the same plant found in India and China, the Camellia sinensis.
